Apostle Paul’s letter to the Galatians reveals that Christ is versus religion with its law. God make Paul an apostle not by the law according to his natural man in the old creation but through the resurrection of Christ according to his regenerated man in the new creation. Therefore Apostle Paul didn’t say “God the Father, who gave the law through Moses,” but “God the Father, who raised Him (Christ) from the dead.” God’s New Testament economy is not with men in the old creation but with men in the new creation through the resurrection of Christ. Paul came to his subject because the churches in Galatia were deserting the grace of Christ and backsliding to the observance of the law, Paul was burdened to write this Epistle. And emphasized that the purpose of Christ’s giving Himself for our sins was to rescue us, to pluck us, out of the Jewish religion, the present evil age. This is to release God’s chosen people from the custody of the law to bring them out of the sheepfold (John10:1; 3) according to the will of God.

Apostle Paul wanted to rescue the churches, which were distracted by Judaism with its law, and bring them back to the grace of the gospel. The grace of Christ is the Triune God- the Father, the Son, and the Spirit. This grace is versus the law of Moses (John1:17). The observance of the law could never be a gospel that could set sinners free from the bondage of the law and bring them into the enjoyment of God; it could only keep them as slaves under the bondage of the law, entangling them with the yoke of slavery of the law (Gal.5:1). The Judaizers troubled the churches by perverting distorting, the gospel of Christ, thus misleading the believers into going back to the law of Moses.

Judaism was built upon the God-given law with its three pillars: circumcision, the Sabbath, and the holy dietary regulations. All three were ordained by God (Gen.17:9-14; Exo.20:8-11;Lev.11) as shadows of things to come (Col.2:16-17). Circumcision was a shadow of the crucifixion of Christ in its putting off of the flesh, as signified in baptism (Col.2:11-12). The Sabbath was a type of Christ as the rest for His people (Matt.11:28-30). The holy diet symbolized persons who are clean and persons who are unclean, those whom God’s holy people should contact and those they should not contact (Acts 10:11-16,34-35). Once Christ had come, all these shadows should have been terminated. Hence, the observance of the Sabbath was abolished by the Lord Jesus in His ministry (Matt.12:1-12), the holy dietary regulations were annulled by the Spirit in Peter’s ministry (Acts10:9-20), and circumcision was counted as nothing in the revelation received by Paul in his ministry (Gal.5:6; 6:15). Furthermore, the law, the base of Judaism, has been terminated and replaced by Christ (Rom.10:4; Gal.2:16).

When Christ took away our sin on the cross, He redeemed us out of the curse of the law. Christ not only bore the curse for us but also became a curse for us. The curse of the law issued from the sin of man.(Gen.3:17). In drifting back to the law, the bewitched Galatians clung to Moses, through whom the law was given; but Paul referred them to Abraham, who was the father of faith. Faith was of God’s original economy; the law was added later because of the transgressions. After Christ fulfilled the law through His death, God wanted His people to return to His original economy. With Abraham it was not a matter of keeping the law but of believing God. Works of law make people disciples of Moses (John9:28), a relationship that has nothing whatever to do with life. Faith in Christ makes the New Testament believers sons of God, a relationship altogether of life. We the New Testament believers, were born sons of the fallen Adam, and in Adam, because of transgressions, we were under the law of Moses. But we have been reborn sons of Abraham and have been freed from the law of Moses by faith in Christ.

The promise God gave to Abraham, “In you shall all the nations be blessed,” was the gospel. It was preached to Abraham not only before the accomplishing of redemption by Christ but also before the giving of the law through Moses. What God promised to Abraham corresponds with what God accomplished through Christ, which is the fulfillment of His promise to Abraham. The New Testament economy is a continuation of God’s dealing with Abraham, having nothing to do with the law of Moses. “In order that the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith” (Gal.3:14). The blessing promised by God to Abraham (Gen.12:3) for all the nations of the earth. The promise was fulfilled, and the blessing has come to the nations in Christ through His redemption by the cross. In the gospel we have received not only the blessing of forgiveness, washing, and cleansing; even more, we have received the greatest blessing which is the Triune God –the Father, Son, and Spirit –as the processed all inclusive life-giving Spirit dwelling in us in a most subjective way for our enjoyment.

“But to Abraham were the promises spoken and to his seed. He does not say, and to the seeds, as concerning many, but as concerning one: And to your seed, who is Christ. And I say this : A covenant previously ratified by God, the law, having come four hundred and thirty years after, does not annul so as to make the promise of none effect. For if the inheritance is of law, it is no longer of promise; but to Abraham God has graciously given it through promise.” (Galatians 3:16-18)

Christ is seed and the seed is the heir who inherits the promises. Actually is God Himself processed in His Trinity through incarnation, crucifixion, resurrection, ascension, and dissension that we may receive Him as our life and our everything!  God’s promise to Abraham was given first. The law came 430 years later. The promise was permanent, but the law was temporary. The law, which came later and was temporary, cannot annul the promise, which was given first and was permanent. The Galatians left the first and permanent promise and went back to the later and temporary law.  Counted from the time God gave Abraham the promise in Gen.12 to the time He gave the law through Moses in Exo.20. This period was considered by God as the time of the children of Israel’s dwelling in Egypt (Exo.12:40-41). The four hundred years mentioned in Gen. 15:13 and Acts 7:6 is counted from the time Ishmael mocked Isaac in Gen.21 to the time the children of Israel came out of the Egyptian tyranny in Exo.12 This is the period during which Abraham’s descendants suffered persecution from the Gentiles.

Inheritance is not of law but promise. Hence, the inheritance was graciously given to Abraham through promise.  The law was able only to demand and condemn; it could not give life (Rom.7:10). There is no life in the law; there are only commandments. Life is in Christ (John1:4). He is the life-giving Spirit (1Cor.15:45), the only One who is able to give life. The giving of life is the focal point of the apostle’s revelation. We should take only the One who gives life. With the law there is a mediator between two parties, God and the children of Israel. With the promise there is only God, who is directly related to the one who receives the promise, without a go-between. The responsibility with respect to the law depends not on one party but on two, whereas the responsibility with regard to the promise depends only on the giver, God. Hence, the law is inferior to the promise. The Galatians gave up the superior and went back to the inferior.

There must be righteousness in order for life to be given. (Gal.3:21) Righteousness, however, is not of law but in Christ (Rom.5:17-18). Hence, the law is not able to give life. Furthermore, since the law cannot give life, it has no power to fulfill its requirements so that righteousness may be produced. Therefore, in this sense also, righteousness is not of law. “But the Scripture has shut up all under sin in order that the promise out of faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. But before faith came we were guarded under law, being shut up unto the faith which was to be revealed. So then the law has become our child-conductor unto Christ that we might be justified out of faith. But since faith has come, we are no longer under a child-conductor. For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There cannot be Jew nor Greek, there cannot be salve nor free man, there cannot be male and female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are of Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, heirs according to promise.” (Gal.3:22-29)

The believers are one in Christ by His resurrection life, and His divine nature to be the one new man, as mentioned in Eph.2:15. This one new man is absolutely in Christ. There is no room for our natural being, our natural disposition, and our natural character; in this one new man Christ is all and in all (Col.3:10-11). This oneness in Christ is achieved through baptism, which terminates all the divisive distinctions and ushers the believers into the divine organic union with the processed Triune God, resulting in the believers’ subjective assurance that they are one with one another.

Abraham has only one seed, Christ (Gal.3:16). Hence, to be Abraham’s seed we must be of Christ, be a part of Christ, we too are Abraham’s seed, heirs according to promise, inheriting God’s promised blessing, which is the all-inclusive Spirit as the ultimate consummation of the processed God, who is our portion. Under the New Testament, the believers as God’s chosen people, being sons of full age, are such heirs, not under law but in Christ.

Like Ishmael (4:23), the Judaizers, who remained under law and kept themselves apart from Christ, were Abraham’s descendants according to the flesh; they were not like Isaac (Gal.4:28), who was Abraham’s heir according to promise. But the believers in Christ are such heirs, inheriting the promised blessing. Therefore, we should remain in Christ and not turn to the law.  Since the law is unable to give us life (Gal. 3:21), it cannot produce the sons of God; but the Spirit, who is received out of faith (Gal.3:2) and who gives us life (2Cor.3:6), can.  The law kept God’s chosen people under its custody until faith came (Gal.3:23). Faith in Christ, who is the all-inclusive life-giving Spirit, makes God’s chosen people Abraham’s seed as “the stars of the heavens” (Gen.22:17) according to God’s promise.

Ø  Grace came with Christ and with the fulfillment of the promise.

God gave the promise to Abraham according to His eternal purpose. Before this promise was fulfilled, the law was given to serve as the custodian of God’s chosen people. Then, at the appointed time Christ, the promised seed, came to fulfill the promise and brought in the promised blessing. This is grace. Therefore, grace came with Christ and with the fulfillment of the promise. All this is on God’s side. On our side, we need a way to apprehend, realize, and enjoy all that Christ, the seed, is and has accomplished. Therefore, there is grace on God’s side, and there is faith on our side. Now, since we have grace, faith, and the seed that has fulfilled the promise, we no longer need the law to serve as our custodian. Hence, we must set aside the law and turn from the custodian to stay with Christ that we may enjoy the promised blessing by remaining in grace and faith. This blessing is nothing less than the processed Triune God as the all inclusive life-giving Spirit.

“But when time had fully come, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under law, to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons. Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, "Abba," Father. So, you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, God has made you also an heir. (Galatians 4: 4-7)

Christ’s redemption brings s us into the sonship of God that we may enjoy the divine life. God’s economy is not to make us keepers of the law, obeying the commandments and ordinances of the law, which was given only for a temporary purpose. God’s economy is to make us sons of God, who inherit the blessing of God’s promise, which was given for His eternal purpose. God’s eternal purpose is to have many sons for His corporate expression (Heb.2:10; Rom.8:29).

Therefore, He predestinated us unto sonship (Eph.1:5) and regenerated us to be His sons (John1:12-13). God’s Son is the embodiment of the divine life (1John5:12). The Spirit of God’s Son is the Spirit of life (Rom.8:2). God gives us His Spirit of life not because we are law keepers but because we are His sons.

Abba is an Aramaic word, and Father is the translation of the Greek word Pater. Such a term was used first by the Lord Jesus in Gethsemane while He was praying to the Father (Mark 14:36). The combining of the Aramaic title with the Greek title expresses a stronger affection in crying to the Father. Such an affectionate cry implies an intimate relationship in life between a genuine son and a begetting father.

The New Testament believers become heirs of God not through the law nor through their fleshly father but through God, even the Triune God- the Father, who sent forth the Son and the Spirit; (Gal.4:4,6); the Son, who accomplished redemption for sonship (Gal.4:5); and the Spirit, who carries out the sonship with us (Gal.4:6).  You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of you who were baptized into Christ, have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. If you belong to Christ then you are Abraham’s seed and heirs according to the promise. (Galatians 3:26-29).

Therefore, Apostle Paul emphasized that “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.” He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit. (Galatians 3:13-14)  But when time had fully come, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under law, to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons. Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, "Abba," Father. So, you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, God has made you also an heir. (Galatians 4: 4-7). The one who sows to please the Spirit from the Spirit will reap eternal life. (Galatians 6:7-8).

Today, Israel is at war and has been facing Hamas terrorists who attacked, bloodshed, kidnapped women, men and children 240 people in Gaza, Israel since October 7, 2023. Many Christians, ministers, and churches regardless Jewish and Gentiles in the U.S.A. stand up together and lift up our voices to support Israel by prayers, financial support, medical supply and military backing. All the Christians and Jewish brothers and sisters work in unity, and in same hearts and same minds to lift up Israel. We pray for the peace of Jerusalem, and May the will of God be done in Israel!

Why does the war constantly happen in Gaza? What are the prophecies about Gaza? Today, let us discover the prophecies and other oracles against the Philistines in the Old Testament. According to the Old Testament the prophecies against the Philistines are in Jeremiah 47:1-7; Isaiah 14:28-31; Ezek. 25:15-17; Amos 1:6-8; Zeph.2:4-7.

First, Jeremiah’s Prophecies against the Philistines in Jeremiah 47: 1-7 Date: 627-585

“This is the word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the Philistines before Pharaoh attacked Gaza; Pharaoh Necho’s campaign in 609 (2Kings 23:29ff.)

“This is what the Lord says: “see how the waters are rising in the north; they will become an overflowing torrent…the people will cry out; all who dwell in the land will wail at the sound of the hoofs of galloping steeds, at the noise of enemy chariots and the rumble of their wheels. Fathers will not turn to help their children; their hands will hang limp, for the day has come to destroy all the Philistines and to cut off all survivors who could help Tyre and Sidon. The Lord is about to destroy the Philistines, the remnant from the coasts of Caphtor. Gaza will shave her head in mourning; Ashkelon will be silenced. O remnant on the plain, how long will you cut yourselves? “‘Ah, sword of the Lord,’ you cry, ‘how long till you rest? Return to your scabbard; cease and be still.’  But how can it rest when the Lord has commanded it, when he has ordered it to attack Ashkelon and the coast?” (Jeremiah 47:1-7).

Second, Isaiah’s prophecies against Philistia in Isaiah 14:28-31 Date: 740-680

“This oracle came in the year King Ahaz died:  Do not rejoice, all you Philistines, that the rod that struck you is broken; from the root of that snake will spring up a viper, its fruit will be a darting, venomous serpent. The poorest of the poor will find pasture and the needs will lie down in safety. But your root I will destroy by famine; I will slay your survivors. Wail, O gate! Howl, O city! Melt away, all you Philistines! A cloud of smoke comes from the north, and there is not a straggler in its ranks. What answer shall be given to the envoys of that nation? “The Lord has established, Zion, and in her his afflicted people will find refuge.” (Isaiah 14:28-32).

Ahaz died in 715. He was pro-Assyrian, but now Assyria was in difficulty (v.29a). Messengers from Philistia proposed to King Hezekiah that they join in a revolt against Assyria (v.32) The Lord told Isaiah that the respite from Assyrian domination was only temporary (v.29b), that Philistia was doomed (v.30), and that their trust should be in the Lord.(v.32)

Third, Judgment on Philistia in Ezek. 25:15-17 Date: 592-570

“This is what the Sovereign Lord says, ‘Because the Philistines acted in vengeance and took revenge with malice in their hearts, and with ancient hostility sought to destroy Judah, therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am about to stretch out my hand against the Philistines, and I will cut off the Kerethites and destroy those remaining along the coast. I will carry out great vengeance on them and punish them in my wrath. Then they will know that I am the Lord, when I take vengeance on them.” (Ezek.25:15-17)

Philistines are descendants of Mizraim, the son of Ham (Gen.10:41;1 Chron.1:12), they were a constant thorn in the side of Israel ( Ex.13:17;Juge.3:2-3;10:6-7;1Sam.4; Judg. 13-16; 1 Sam.13:19-22;17-18;2Chron.17:11;28:18;Zech.9:1-8) They worshiped Dagon (the Semitic grain deity; cf.1 Sam.5) and other gods, and were finally liquidated under the Maccabees in the second century B.C.

Kerethites is synonymous with the Philistines. Tyre is an ancient Phoenician city-state on the Mediterranean, between Acre and Sidon. She enjoyed great prosperity under King Hiram (980-947), who provided men and materials for the construction of David’s palace (2 Sam.5:11-12) and Solomon’s palace and Temple (2 Chron.2). Many nations would be involved in the destruction of Tyre. Nebuchadnezzar (v.7) besieged the mainland city for thirteen years (585-572) and destroyed it. In 332 Alexander the Great besieged the island city for six months and finally captured it by building a causeway out to it from the debris of the destroyed mainland city. The city was rebuilt and Is mentioned in Matt.15:21-28; Mark 3:8; Matt.11:21-22; Acts 21:3-6. The city was almost completely destroyed by the Muslims in A.D.1291.

Fourth, The prophecies of Amos concerning Philistia in Amos 1:6-8   Date: 755 B.C.

This is what the Lord says: “For three sins of Gaza even for four, I will not turn back my wrath. Because she took captive whole communities and sold them to Edom, I will send fire upon the walls of Gaza that will consume her fortresses. I will destroy the king of Ashdod and the one who holds the scepter in Ashkelong. I will turn my hand against Ekron, till the last of the Philistines is dead.” says the Sovereign Lord. (Amos1:6-8)

Gaza is a trade city, trafficking in slaves, where many Israelites were sold into slavery by Edom, their bitterest enemy.

Fifth, The prophecies of Zephaniah concerning Philistia in Zeph. 2:4-7   Date: 625 B.C.

Gaza will be abandoned and Ashkelon left in ruins. At midday Ashdod will be emptied and Ekron uprooted. Woe to you who live by the sea, O Kerethite people; the word of the Lord is against you, O Canaan, land of the Philistines. “I will destroy you, and none will be left.” The land by the sea, where the Kerethites dwell, will be a place for shepherds and sheep pens. It will belong to the remnant of the house of Judah; there they will find pasture. In the evening they will lie down in the houses of Ashkelon. The Lord their God will care for them; he will restore their fortunes.” (Zeph.2:4-7).

Kerethite people are occupants of the southern coast of the Philistine country who had roots in Crete. A small remnant of Jews would be restored after the Babylonian captivity.

 Conclusion

First, Philistia was doomed and that their trust should be in the Lord. Philistines are descendants of Mizraim, the son of Ham (Gen.10:41;1 Chron.1:12), they were a constant thorn in the side of Israel (Ex.13:17; Juge.3:2-3;10:6-7;1Sam.4; Judg. 13-16; 1 Sam.13:19-22;17-18; 2Chron.17:11; 28:18; Zech.9:1-8). They worshiped Dagon (the Semitic grain deity; cf.1 Sam.5) and other gods, and were finally liquidated under the Maccabees in the second century B.C.  O Canaan, land of the Philistines. “I will destroy you, and none will be left.” The Lord is about to destroy the Philistines, the remnant from the coasts of Caphtor. Gaza will shave her head in mourning; Gaza is a trade city, trafficking in slaves, where many Israelites were sold into slavery by Edom, their bitterest enemy. Gaza will be abandoned, and Ashkelon left in ruins.

Second, God’s own heart and salvation

According to the historical events and prophecies, God’s own heart is delight in Israel and He restored the Israel by established a new covenant, the King Messiah will emerge from the Davidic dynasty to rule in the millennial kingdom. As Jeremiah repeated the message concerning Messiah in Jeremiah.23:5 and 33:15-17 as follows,

“The days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will raise up to David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land. In his days Judah will be saved and Israel will live in safety. This is the name by which he will be called: the Lord Our Righteousness” (Jeremiah 23:5-6)

By In those days and at that time I will make a righteous Branch sprout from David’s line; he will do what is just and right in the land. In those days Judah will be saved and Jerusalem will live in safety. This is the name by which it will be called: The Lord Our Righteousness.’ For this is what the Lord says: David will never fail to have a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel. (Jeremiah 33:15-17)

Weekly Message: Messiah -The suffering and Triumph of the Servant (Isaiah 52:13--53:12) By Rev.Katherine Liu Bruce

Weekly Message: Messiah -The suffering and Triumph of the Servant (Isaiah 52:13--53:12) By Rev.Katherine Liu Bruce                                                                                                                              Christian Arts Ministries: Biblical precepts & Gospel music; Pastoral ministry &Counseling

Isaiah 52:13 -53:12 is one of the most treasured and important passages in the O.T. These verses present the Servant suffering vicariously for men’s sins. Traditional Jewish interpretation understood the passage to be speaking of Messiah, as, of course, did the early Christians, who believed Jesus to be that Messiah (Act.8:35). Not until the twelfth century did the view emerge that the nations Israel is referred to, a view that has since become dominant in Judaism, but the Servant is distinguished from the “People” (53:8) and He is an innocent victim something that could not be said of the nation. (53:9) the passage divides into five sections of three verses each (1)52:13-15, (2) 53:1-3 (3) 53:4-6 (4) 53:7-9 (5) 53:10-12.[1]

Joy and gladness will be found in her, thanksgiving and the sound of singing. (Isaiah.51:3) The ransomed of the Lord will return they will enter Zion with singing; everlasting joy will crown their heads. Gladness and joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee away. (Isaiah.51:11). For this is what the Lord days,” You were sold for nothing, and without money you will be redeemed.” (Isiah52:3). Surely He took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows. Yet we considered him stricken by God. (Isaiah53:4).

In the Isaiah 52:13-15 the preeminence of the Servant. Raised and lifted up. The same words are used of God in 6:1 (cf.Phil.2:9-11). As a result of the mistreatment done Him by Pilate’s soldiers, Messiah’s appearance was so disfigured (Isa.52:14) so that He could scarily be recognized as human. Because of His sacrifice He would be able to sprinkle (v.15) many, as a priest does in order to purify them. (1Pet1:2).[2]

“See, my servant will act wisely; he will be raised and lifted up and highly exalted. Just as there were many who were appalled at him-his appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any man and his form marred beyond human likeness so will he sprinkle many nations, and kings will shut their mouths because of him. For what they were not told, they will see, and what they have not heard, they will understand.” (Isaiah52:13-15)

In the Isaiah 53:1-3 the person of the Servant. The arm of the Lord (v.1) represents the power of the Lord in past miracles and in the future miracles of Messiah. Tender shoot (v.2) Lit., a suckling; i.e., frail (contrast11:1) root out of dry ground (53:2), refers to Messiah’s lowly background. There would be nothing in His personal appearance that would especially attract men to Him, He would experience sorrows (lit. pains,v.3) but men would not recognize His worth.

Who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? He grew up before him like a tender shoot and life a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him. He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not.” (Isaiah53:1-3)

In the Isaiah 53:4-6 indicates the passion of the Servant. Though men would think that God was causing the Servant to suffer for His own sins, the truth was that He suffered vicariously for theirs. “Pierced”(v.5). A term appropriate to crucifixion; “brought us peace” I.e., His punishment that obtained peace or well-being for us.

Surely, he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him and by his wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.” (Isaiah 53:4-6)

In the Isaiah 53:7-9 shows the passivity of the Servant. He didn’t open his mouth (v.7) which confirmed in the Matthew 26:63-64; Jesus did affirm His deity when placed under oath. Compare Isa.53:9 with Matt.27:57-60.

“He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth. By oppression and judgment, he was taken away. And who can speak of his descendants? For he was cut off from the land of the living; for the transgression of my people, he was stricken. He was assigned a grace with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, though he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth. (Isaiah53:7-9)

In the Isaiah 53:10-12 indicates the portion of the Servant. His whole being, including His soul(v.11), was involved in the offering (v.10) the word used in Lev.6-7 of the guilt or trespass offering, which required 120 percent restitution, Lev.6:5) His offspring (53:10) are those who would believe on Him. To prolong his days after being made an offering would necessitate bodily resurrection.

“ Yet it was the Lord’s will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the Lord makes his life a guilt offering, he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the Lord will prosper in his hand. After the suffering of his soul, he will see the light of life, and be satisfied; by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear their iniquities. Therefore I will give him a portion among the great, and he will divide the spoils with the strong, because he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.”(Isaiah53:10-12)

Ø  The Lord’s promise blessings to Overcomers are in three stages.

The entire verse is the Lord’s promise to the overcomers, it will be fulfilled in the millennial kingdom after the Lord comes back. That a name is erased out of the book of life indicates that that name has already been written in the book of life. The book of life is a divine record of the names of those who partake of the blessings that God has prepared for them.  The names of all the saints chosen by God and predestinated to partake of these blessings are written in this book (Luke10:20). These blessings are in three stages: 1) In the church    2) In the millennial kingdom   3) In eternity

In the church age--- The blessings in the stage of the church, such as forgiveness, redemption, regeneration, eternal life, the divine nature, etc., are the initial portions. All God’s chosen ones whose names are written in the book of life have a share in these initial portions to begin their spiritual life. If they cooperate with God’s supplying grace, they will mature in life in the church age, and this earlier maturity in life will constitute a prize with which the Lord will reward them at His coming back.

In the millennial kingdom stage  ---That prize will be the entrance into the millennial kingdom and participation in the divine blessings in that stages, such as the joy and rest of the Lord (Matt.25:21,23; Heb. 4:9-11), the reign over the nations (rev.2:26-27;20:4,6), etc., which God has prepared as an incentive for His chosen ones to go on with Him in the church age.

However, many of His chosen ones, after receiving His forgiveness, redemption, eternal life, divine nature, etc., will not cooperate will His grace and will not go on with Him. Hence, they are unable to mature in life in the church age and thus will not be ready at the Lord’s coming back to enter into the millennial kingdom and share in the divine blessings of that age as a prize. Therefore, during the millennial kingdom their names will be erased from the book of life. After being disciplined by the Lord and growing in life unto maturity during the millennial kingdom,

In the eternity stage---- then they will share in the divine blessings in the stage of eternity, such as the eternal priesthood with God’s eternal presence, the eternal kingship (Rev.22:17). At that time their names should again be written in the book of life. This means that all God’s chosen ones whose names are written in the book of life and who have been brought into the participation of the divine blessings in the stage of the church “shall by no means perish forever “ (John10:28). That is, they shall by no means lose the divine blessings of eternity.  But some, those who do not cooperate with the Lord in the church age, will be dispensationally disciplined by the Lord during the millennial kingdom and will miss the divine blessings in that stage.

In the kingdom age the Lord will confess the name of the overcomer because the overcomer’s name will not have been erased out of the book of life but will still be written in it. This implies that if the believers are not overcomers, in the kingdom age their names will be erased out of the book of life and therefore will not be confessed by the Lord.

My friends, Christians’ life are pursuing the maturity in life as overcomers in these three stages 1) in the church age, 2) in the millennial age, and 3) in the eternity age.The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love. (Gal.5:6). As 1 Peter 1:7 says, “These have come so that your faith of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire maybe, proved genuine and may result in praise, glory, and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. Keep cooperating with God’s supplying grace; reach to the earlier maturity in life in the church age which will constitute a prize that the Lord will reward you at His coming back.  This prize and reward will enable you entrance into the millennial kingdom and share in the divine blessings in the stage of eternity such as the eternal priesthood with God’s eternal presence, the eternal kingship (Rev.22:17). At that time your names should by no means to erase out of the book of life and shall by no means lose the divine blessings of eternity.

However, if you will not cooperate with His grace and will not go on with Him, not much living faith to partake of the divine element of Christ, you are unable to mature in life in the church age and will not be ready at the Lord’s coming back to enter into the millennial kingdom and share in the divine blessings of that age as a prize. During the millennial kingdom your names will be erased from the book of life. After being disciplined by the Lord and growing in life unto maturity during the millennial kingdom. You will share in the divine blessings in the stage of eternity, such as the eternal priesthood with God’s eternal presence, the eternal kingship (Rev.22:17). At that time your names should again be written in the book of life.

Ø  The needs of seven Church and reward for overcomers (Revelation 2:1-3:22)

To the church in Ephesus, Christ was the One who held the seven stars and walked in the midst of the seven lampstands. The initial church needed the care of Christ, and her leaders needed His keeping grace. (Rev.2:1—7)

To the church in Smyrna, He was the One who became dead and lived again. The suffering church needed the resurrection life of Christ. (Rev.2:8-11)

To the church in Pergamum, Christ was the One who has the sharp two-edged sword. The degraded, worldly church needed His judging and slaying word.(Rev.2:12-17)

To the church in Thyatira, He was the One who has eyes like flaming fire and feet like shining bronze. The apostate Church needed His searching and judging.  (Rev.2:18-29)

To the church in Sardis, The seven Spirits of God enable the church to be intensely living, and the seven stars enable her to be intensely shining.  Christ was the One who has the seven Spirits of God and the seven stars. The dead, reformed church needed the sevenfold intensified Spirit of God and the shining leaders. The sevenfold intensified Spirit is living and can never be replaced by the dead letters of knowledge. (2Cor.3:6). (Rev.3:1-6)

Many have considered the reformed Protestant Church to be living, but the Lord says that she is dead. Hence, she needs the living Spirits and the shining stars.  The things which remain are the things that had been lost and were restore by the Reformation, such as justification by Faith, the open Bible, etc. Though these things had been restored, they were about to die. Hence, they needed to be revived. This is actual situation of the Protestant church.

The message to the church in Sardis Revelation 3:1-6

“I know your deeds, you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead. Wake up strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your deeds complete in the sight of my God. Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard, obey it and repent….(Rev.3:1-2)  Yet you have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their clothes. They will walk with me, dressed in white, for they are worthy. He, who overcomes will like them, be dressed in white. I will never blot out his name from the book of life, but will acknowledge his name before my Father and his angels. (Rev. 3: 4-5)

Garments in the Bible signify what we are in our walk and living. To defile one’s garments means particularly to stain them with deadness. Death is more defiling before God than sin (Lev.11:24-25; Num. 6:6-7,9). White signifies not only purity but also approvedness. White garments here signify the walk and living that are unspotted by death and that will be approved by the Lord. This is a qualification for walking with the Lord, especially in the coming kingdom.

To the church in Philadelphia, Philadelphia in the Greek word means brotherly love. To the church of brotherly love, the Lord is the Holy One, the true One. The Lord is also the One who has the key of David, the key of the kingdom, with authority to open and to shut. The Lord uses this key to deal with the recovered church. (Rev.3:7-13)

In Revelation 3:14-22 unveils the weakness and strength of the church in Laodicea and reward to those who overcomes.  The church in Laodicea has knowledge of Christ but does not have the Lord’s presence. The Lord is dealing with whole church, but the acceptance of the Lord’s dealing must be a personal matter. “ I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich, and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness, and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see. Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline so be earnest and repent.” (Rev. 3:18-19). The scriptures mention about three items 1) Gold.  2) White clothes. 3) Salve.

              1)  In the Bible our operating, working faith (Gal.5:6) is likened to gold (1Pet.1:7). The divine nature of God, which is the divinity of Christ, is typified by gold (Exo.25:11) by faith we partake of the divine nature of God. The degraded recovered church has the knowledge of the doctrines concerning Christ but not much living faith to partake of the divine element of Christ. She needs to pay the price to gain the golden faith through the fiery trials that she may participate in the real gold, which is Christ Himself as the life element to His Body. Thus she can become a pure golden lampstand (Rev.1:20) for the building of the golden New Jerusalem (Rev.1:18).

  2) White clothes – in figure, garments signify conduct. White garments here signify conduct that can be approved by the Lord. Such conduct is the Lord Himself lived out of the church, and it is required by the degraded recovered church for the covering of her nakedness.

 3) The eye salve needed to anoint their eyes must be the anointing Spirit (1John2:27), who is the Lord Himself as the lift – giving Spirit (1Cor.15:45). The degraded recovered church needs this kind of eye salve also for the healing of her blindness. For the three items mentioned in this verse, she must pay the price.

What is the reward to those who overcomes, the reward to those who overcomes, “I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I overcame and sat down with my Father on his throne” (Rev.3:21).
