Bible in one year 8/16/ 2022 Psalm 27-29 By Rev. Katherine Liu Bruce

The Lord is my light and my salvation (Psalm 27) worshiping song I composed and sang out to worship the Lord during 2017. A heart of worshiping, devotion, and put my confidence in the Lord, trust  in Him. A song of deliverance, and rejoice and victory in waiting upon the Lord.

Psalm 27  In this great anthem of praise,  King David expresses his confidence in the Lord (vv.1-6), prays for continued victory (vv.7-12), and rejoices in his waiting on the Lord (vv.13-14). Light dispels the anxieties and dangers of darkness; salvation guarantees the defeat of all adversaries; stronghold assures victory against all assaults.

Psalm 27:1-14 A psalm of David

The Lord is my light and my salvation whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life-of whom shall I be afraid? When evil men advance against me, to devour my flesh, when my enemies and my foes attack me, they will stumble and fall.(vv.1-2).

Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then will I be confident. One thing I ask of the Lord, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple. For in the day of truble, he will keep me safe in his dwelling; He will hide me in the shelter of his tabernacle and set me high upon a rock. Then my head will be exalted above the enemies who surround me; at his tabernacle will I sacrifice with shouts of joy; I will sing and make music to the Lord. (vv.3-6).

Hear my voice when I call, O Lord; be merciful to me and answer me. My heart says of you, “ Seek his face! Your face, Lord, I will seek. Do not hide your face from me, do not turn your servant away in anger; you have been my helper. Do not reject me or forsake me, O God my Savior. (vv.7-9).

Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me. Teach me your way, O Lord; lead me in a straight path because of my oppressors. Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes, for false witnesses rise up against me, breathing out violence. (vv.10-12).

I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. (vv.13-14).

Psalm 28 In this lament psalm, David petitions the Lord to deliver him from the just judgment due his enemies (vv.1-4), confidently predicts their punishment (v.5), publicly praise God for the assurance of an answer to his prayer (vv.6-8), and petitions the Lord to save Israel (v.9).

Psalm 28:1-9 A psalm of David

To you I call, O Lord my Rock; do not turn a deaf ear to me. For if you remain silent, I will be like those who have gone down to the pit. Hear my cry for mercy as I call to you for help, as I lift up my hands, as I lift up my hands toward your Most Holy Place. (vv.1-2).

Do not drag me away with wicked, with those who do evil, who speak cordially with their neighbors but harbor malice in their hearts. Repay them for their deeds and for their evil work; repay them for what their hands have done and bring back upon them what they deserve. Since they show no regard for the workds of the Lord and what his hands have done, he will tear them down and never build them up again. (vv.3-5).

Praise be to the Lord, for he has heard my cry for mercy. The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song. (v.7).

The Lord is the strength of his people, a fortress of salvation for his anointed one. Save your people and bless your inheritance; be their shepherd and carry them forever. (vv.6-9).

Psalm 29 This hymn of David ascribes glory to the omnipotent Lord (vv.1-2) who controls and reveals Himself in nature(vv.3-9) and in blessing His people with strength and peace (vv.10-11). The name of the Lord (Lord, Yahweh) occurs eighteen times in this brief psalm (Gen.2:4).

Psalm 29:1-11 A Psalm of David

Ascribe to the Lord, O mighty ones, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness. (vv.1-2).

The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord thunders over the mighty water. The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is majestic. The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars; the Lord breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon. (vv.3-5).

He makes Lebanon skip like a calf, Sirion like a young wild ox. The voice of the Lord strikes with flashes of lightning. The voice of the Lord shakes the desert; the Lord shakes the Desert of Kadesh. The voice of the Lord twists the oaks and strips the forests bare. And in his temple all cry, “Glory!” (vv.6-9).

The Lord sits enthroned over the flood; the Lord is enthroned as King forever. The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace. (v.10).
