Bible in one year 8/19/ 2022 Psalm 34 and a worship song by Rev. Katherine Liu Bruce

"I will extol the Lord" a worship song I composed, and sang out to worship the Lord during 2018, a heart to reflect Psalm 34 King David's psalm of thanksgiving and urged his people do good, turn from evil, seek peace and pursue it.

Psalm 34 In this psalm of thanksgiving (an acrostic like Psalm25), David calls on the congregation to praise the Lord for delivering him and for His goodness to His people concerning the righteous path to a long life (vv.11-22). David pretended to be insane (in superscription) before Abimelech (1Sam.21:10-15). Though the king of the beasts may starve, the Lord  provides for His own (v.10). David practiced what he preached (1Sam.25:14-15), and so should the Christian (1Peter 3:10-12). Verse 20 “He protects all his bones, not one of them will be broken.”  God preserves the righteous man though he may be severely afflicted. This scripture had a unique fulfillment in the Righteous One, Jesus Christ (John19:36).

Psalm 34 :1-22 A psalm of David

I will extol the Lord at all times; his praise will always be on my lips. My soul will boast in the Lord; let the afflicted hear and rejoice. Glorify the Lord with me; let us exalt his name together. I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears. (vv.1-4).

Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame. This poor man called, and the Lord heard him; he saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them. (vv.5-7).

Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him. Fear the Lord, you his saints, for those who fear him lack nothing. (vv.8-9).

The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing. (v.10).

Come, my children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord. Whoever of you loves life and desires to see many good days, keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking lies. Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.(vv.11-14).

The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their cry; the face of the Lord is against those who do evil, to cut off the memory of them from the earth. (vv.15-16).

The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. (vv.17-18).

A righteous man may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all; he protects all his bones, not one of them will be broken.(vv.19-20)

Evil will slay the wicked; the foes of the righteous will be condemned. The Lord redeems his servants; no one will be condemned who takes refuge in him.(vv.21-22).
