Psalm 91 This psalm of trust may be outlined as follows: the bases of security found in the character(vv.1-2) and care(vv.3-8) of God; and the blessings of security(His protection, vv.9-13and His love, vv.14-16). Verses 1-2 notice the four names of God: Most High (Gen.14:18), Almighty (Gen.17:1), Lord (Gen.2:4), God (Gen.1:1). In God we are secure at all times (v.5) in all dangers(v.6) and in all circumstances(v.7).

            Psalm 91:1-16

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “ He is my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust.” Surely He will cover you with his feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.(vv.1-4).

You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked. (vv.5-8).

If you make the Most High your dwelling –
even the Lord, who is my refuge- then no harm will befall you no disaster will come hear your tent.

For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. (vv.9-12)

You will tread upon the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent. “Because He loves me,” says the Lord, “ I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation.(vv.13-16).

Psalm 92 a palm for the Sabbath day. This psalm used on the Sabbath, this psalm of praise thanks God(vv.1-3) for His judgment on the wicked (vv.4-9) and His blessings on the righteous(v.10-15). The use of instruments shows that this psalm was part  of corporate worship. (v.3). the senseless man fails to understand God’s majestic ways 9v.6). Verse 10, God exalts the horn(strength) of the righteous and consecrates him for service(fine oils have been poured upon me). Verses 12-14 The righteous flourish and are strong(v.12); they are secure(v.13) and fruitful(v.14).

Psalm 92:1-15

It is good to praise the Lord and make music to your name, O Most High, to proclaim your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night, to the music of the ten-stringed lyre and the melody of the harp. For you make me glad by your deeds, O Lord; I sing of joy at the works of your hands. How great are your works , O Lord, how profound your thoughts. (vv.1-5).

The senseless man does not know, fools do not understand, that though the wicked spring up like grass and all evildoers flourish, they will be forever destroyed. (vv.6-7).

But you, O Lord, are exalted forever. For surely your enemies, O Lord, surely your enemies will perish; all evildoers will be scattered. You have exalted my horn like that of a wild ox; fine oils have been poured upon me. My eyes have seen the defeat of my adversaries; my ears have heard the rout of my wicked foes. (vv.8-11).

The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of our God. They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green, proclaiming, “ the Lord is upright; He is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him.” (vv.12-15).
