Psalm 64 A psalm of David. This psalm relates the plot of David’s enemies(vv.1-6) and their punishment by God(vv.7-10). Sins of the tongue are again condemned (v.3). David asks that the punishment of the wicked would be such as to teach the people the seriousness of sin, especially sins of speech, their own tongues will eventually trip them up. (v.8).

            Psalm 64:1-10

Hear me, O God, as I voice my complaint; protect my life from the threat of the enemy. Hide me from the conspiracy  of the wicked, from that noisy crowd of evildoers. (vv.1-2).

They sharpen their tongues like swords and aim their words like deadly arrows. They shoot form ambush a the innocent man; they shoot at him suddenly, without fear. (vv.3-4).

They encourage each other in evil plans, they talk about hiding their snares; they say, “ who will see them?” They plot injustice and say, “We have devised a perfect plan!” Surely the mind and heart of man are cunning. But God will shoot them with arrows; suddenly they will be struck down. (vv.5-7).

He will turn their own tongues against them and bring them to ruin; all who see them will shake their heads in scorn.
All mankind will fear; they will proclaim the works of God and ponder what he has done. (vv.8-9).

Let the righteous rejoice in the Lord and take refuge in him; let all the upright in heart praise him! (v.10).

Psalm 65 A psalm of David. In this thanksgiving hymn, David praises God for His favor(vv.1-4), for His greatness(vv.5-8), and for His harvest(vv.9-13). Therefore, God is magnified as Redeemer, Creator, and Provider. Verse 9 the first part of this verse is a summary statement , illustrated in the many examples given(through v.13).God’s presence provides the harvest of field and flock.

            Psalm 65:1-13

Praise awaits you, O God, in Zion; to you our vows will be fulfilled. O you who hear prayer, to you all men will come. When we were overwhelmed by sins, you forgave our transgressions. Blessed are those you choose and bring near to live in your courts! We are filled with the good things of your house, of your holy temple. (vv.1-4).

You answer us with awesome deeds of righteousness, O God our Savior, the hope of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest seas, who formed the mountains by your power, having armed yourself with strength, who stilled the roaring of the seas, the roaring of their waves, and the turmoil of the nations. (vv.5-7).

Those living far away fear your wonders; where

morning dawns and evening fades you call forth songs of joy. (v.8).

You care for the land and water it; you enrich it abundantly. The streams of God are filled with water to provide the people with grain, for so you have ordained it. (v.9).

You drench its furrows and level its ridges; you soften it with showers and bless its crops. You crown the year with your bounty, and your carts overflow with abundance.(vv.10-11).

The grasslands of the desert overflow; the hills are clothed with gladness. The meadows are covered with flocks and the valleys are mantled with grain; they shout for joy and sing.(vv.12-13).

Psalm 66 In celebration of some national deliverance, the psalmist calls on all the earth to praise God (vv.1-12) and as the representative of the nation, he offers sacrifice and praise(vv.13-15) and exhorts the people to prayer and praise (vv.16-20). Verse 6 A reference to the deliverance from Egypt (Ex.14-15), and event viewed with the greatest awe in the Psalms(18:15-18;68:7-8;74:13-15;77:16-20; 78:13,52,53;89:7-10;106:7-12;136:10-15). Verse 12 depicts the triumph of their enemies. Verses 18-19 Sin disqualifies the suppliant; a blameless heart gives assurance that God hears our prayers(1John3:21).

Psalm 66:1-20

Shout with joy to God, all the earth! Sing the glory of his name; make his praise glorious! Say to God, “How awesome are our deeds!” So great is your power that your enemies cringe before you. All the earth bows down to you; they sing praise to you, they sing praise to your name.” (vv.1-4).

Come and see what God has done, how awesome his works in man’s behalf! He turned the sea into dry land, they passed through the waters of foot—come, let us rejoice in him. He rules forever by his power, his eyes watch the nations let not the rebellious rise up against him.(vv.5-7).

Praise our God, O peoples, let the sound of his praise be heard; he has preserved our lives and kept our feet from slipping. For you, O God, tested us; you refined us like silver. You brought us into prison and laid burdens on your backs. You let men ride over our heads; we went through fire and water, but you brought us to a place of abundance. (vv.8-12).

I will come to your temple with burnt offerings and fulfill my vows to you—vows my lips promised and my mouth spoke when I was in trouble I will sacrifice fat animals to you and an offering of rams; I will offer bulls and goats. (vv.13-15).

Come and listen, all you who fear God; let me tell you what he has done for me. I cried out to him with my mouth; his praise was on my tongue. If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened; But God has surely listened and heard my voice in prayer. Praise be to God, who has not rejected my prayer or withheld his love from me!(vv.16-20).
