Proverbs 14  The prudent man carefully considers his conduct and habits, but the foolish sidestep the truth of their frivolous life-style. (v.8). A shortcut to success may be a false trail, leading to destruction. (v.12). Though laughter may relieve the tension of one suffering grief, it is only a temporary escape from the reality of a tragedy. (v.13). A prudent man looks before he leaps.(v.15). Wisdom yields riches, but nothing good can be expected from a fool.(v.24). A witness may save life or deceitfully destroy the innocent.(v.25). The righteous put their confidence in God, believing death to be a place of refuge and immortality (v.32). Though the wise man does not parade his knowledge, the fool boasts of the little he has (v.33).

Proverbs 14 (KJV)
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
¹ Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.
² He that walketh in his uprightness feareth the LORD: but he that is perverse in his ways despiseth him.
³ In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.
⁴ Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: but much increase is by the strength of the ox.
⁵ A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies.
⁶ A scorner seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not: but knowledge is easy unto him that understandeth.
⁷ Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceivest not in him the lips of knowledge.
⁸ The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way: but the folly of fools is deceit.
⁹ Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favour.
¹⁰ The heart knoweth his own bitterness; and a stranger doth not intermeddle with his joy.
¹¹ The house of the wicked shall be overthrown: but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish.
¹² There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
¹³ Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that mirth is heaviness.
¹⁴ The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself.
¹⁵ The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.
¹⁶ A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident.
¹⁷ He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated.
¹⁸ The simple inherit folly: but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.
¹⁹ The evil bow before the good; and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.
²⁰ The poor is hated even of his own neighbour: but the rich hath many friends.

²¹ He that despiseth his neighbour sinneth: but he that hath mercy on the poor, happy is he.
²² Do they not err that devise evil? but mercy and truth shall be to them that devise good.
²³ In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury.
²⁴ The crown of the wise is their riches: but the foolishness of fools is folly.
²⁵ A true witness delivereth souls: but a deceitful witness speaketh lies.

²⁶ In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.

²⁷ The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.
²⁸ In the multitude of people is the king's honour: but in the want of people is the destruction of the prince.
²⁹ He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.
³⁰ A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones.

³¹ He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoureth him hath mercy on the poor.
³² The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous hath hope in his death.
³³ Wisdom resteth in the heart of him that hath understanding: but that which is in the midst of fools is made known.
³⁴ Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.
³⁵ The king's favour is toward a wise servant: but his wrath is against him that causeth shame.

Proverbs 16  The topic of these verses is God and His ultimate control over human activity.(vv.1-9). Man may make plans, but the execution of them, which becomes explicit in speech, fulfills God’s designs. Commit (v.3). Lit., Roll. Roll your burdens on the Lord; although they may cause you anxiety, they are not too great for Him. Love. Loyal love(v.6). The atonement for man’s sin is the result of God’s loyal love and faithfulness. The fear of the Lord motivates a man to turn away from sin when he is tempted. Verse 10-15 a king’s responsibility. As an oracle (v.10). The reference is to the finality of the king’s words. Because of this it is necessary that he be careful not to err in judgment. God is concerned with and in opposition to unfair trade practices.(v.11).  It is better to live humbly with the lowly than to be enriched through improper means with the proud.(v.19). Conveys an expression of malice without words. Much evil and perversity can be disseminated without a word being spoken.(v.30). God is sovereign over human affairs. What appears to be chance is really part of God’s sovereign design.(v.33).

Proverbs 16 (KJV)
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
¹ The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the LORD.
² All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the LORD weigheth the spirits.
³ Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.

⁴ The LORD hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.
⁵ Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.
⁶ By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.
⁷ When a man's ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.
⁸ Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues without right.
⁹ A man's heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.
¹⁰ A divine sentence is in the lips of the king: his mouth transgresseth not in judgment.
¹¹ A just weight and balance are the LORD'S: all the weights of the bag are his work.
¹² It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness: for the throne is established by righteousness.
¹³ Righteous lips are the delight of kings; and they love him that speaketh right.
¹⁴ The wrath of a king is as messengers of death: but a wise man will pacify it.
¹⁵ In the light of the king's countenance is life; and his favour is as a cloud of the latter rain.
¹⁶ How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!
¹⁷ The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul.
¹⁸ Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.
¹⁹ Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.
²⁰ He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the LORD, happy is he.
²¹ The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning.
²² Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that hath it: but the instruction of fools is folly.
²³ The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth, and addeth learning to his lips.
²⁴ Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.
²⁵ There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
²⁶ He that laboureth laboureth for himself; for his mouth craveth it of him.
²⁷ An ungodly man diggeth up evil: and in his lips there is as a burning fire.
²⁸ A froward man soweth strife: and a whisperer separateth chief friends.
²⁹ A violent man enticeth his neighbour, and leadeth him into the way that is not good.
³⁰ He shutteth his eyes to devise froward things: moving his lips he bringeth evil to pass.
³¹ The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness.
³² He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.
³³ The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole disposing thereof is of the LORD.
