Bible in one year 10/19/ 2022 Proverbs Chapter 25-26

 Proverbs 25  from chapter 25:1 to chapter 29:27 in this section are proverbs of Solomon, arranged by an editorial committee set up by King Hezekiah. Extracted from Solomon’s works and incorporated into Proverbs.(v.1). As man cannot estimate the height of the heavens or the depth of the earth, so he cannot comprehend the inner thoughts of a ruler.(v.3).  Verse 6 do not exalt yourself. The circumstance is a feast. Do not take a position at the table which may be reserved for a more distinguished guest (v.6). Aptly spoken. (v.11) Lit., spoken in its time. The simile is obscure, but the message is clear. Patience (v.15), Self-restraint and gentle speech are effective against stubborn opposition. Kindness shown to an enemy will bring shame to him and blessing to the benefactor.(vv.21-22) . A righteous man’s defection affects, those who have learned to rely upon him. (v.26). The proverb warns against becoming too engrossed in one’s share of honor. Excess, even of a good thing, is bad.(v.27). A man without self-control is an easy victim when attacked by his desires and impulses. (v.28).

Proverbs 25 (KJV)

¹ These are also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.

² It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.

³ The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings is unsearchable.

⁴ Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer.

⁵ Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.

⁶ Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men:

⁷ For better it is that it be said unto thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes have seen.

⁸ Go not forth hastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.

⁹ Debate thy cause with thy neighbour himself; and discover not a secret to another:

¹⁰ Lest he that heareth it put thee to shame, and thine infamy turn not away.

¹¹ A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.

¹² As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.

¹³ As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.

¹⁴ Whoso boasteth himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind without rain.

¹⁵ By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.

¹⁶ Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it.

¹⁷ Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbour's house; lest he be weary of thee, and so hate thee.

¹⁸ A man that beareth false witness against his neighbour is a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow.

¹⁹ Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.

²⁰ As he that taketh away a garment in cold weather, and as vinegar upon nitre, so is he that singeth songs to an heavy heart.

²¹ If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:

²² For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee.


²³ The north wind driveth away rain: so doth an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.

²⁴ It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman and in a wide house.

²⁵ As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.

²⁶ A righteous man falling down before the wicked is as a troubled fountain, and a corrupt spring.

²⁷ It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search their own glory is not glory.

²⁸ He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.

¹ 以下也是所羅門的箴言,是猶大王希西家的人所謄錄的。

² 將事隱秘乃 神的榮耀;將事察清乃君王的榮耀。

³ 天之高,地之厚,君王之心也測不透。

除去銀子的渣滓就有銀子出來,銀匠能以作器皿。

除去王面前的惡人,國位就靠公義堅立。

不要在王面前妄自尊大;不要在大人的位上站立。

寧可有人說:請你上來,勝過在你朝見的王子面前叫你退下。

不要冒失出去與人爭競,免得至終被鄰舍羞辱,你就不知道怎樣行了。

你與鄰舍爭訟,要與他一人辯論,不可洩漏人的密事,

¹⁰ 恐怕聽見的人罵你,你的臭名就難以脫離。

¹¹ 一句話說得合宜,就如金蘋果在銀畫紙裏。

¹² 智慧人的勸戒,在順從的人耳中,好像金耳環和精金的妝飾。

¹³ 忠信的使者叫差他的人心裏舒暢,就如在收割時有冰雪的涼氣。

¹⁴ 空誇贈送禮物的,好像無雨的風雲。

¹⁵ 恆常忍耐可以勸動君王;柔和的舌頭能折斷骨頭。

¹⁶ 你得了蜜嗎?只可吃夠而已,恐怕你過飽就嘔吐出來。

¹⁷ 你的腳要少進鄰舍的家,恐怕他厭煩你,恨惡你。

¹⁸ 作假見證陷害鄰舍的,就是大槌,是利刀,是快箭。

¹⁹ 患難時倚靠不忠誠的人,好像破壞的牙,脫了節的腳。

²⁰ 對傷心的人唱歌,就如冷天脫衣服,又如硝上倒醋。

²¹ 你的仇敵若餓了,就給他餅吃;若渴了,就給他水喝;

²² 因為,你這樣行就是把炭火堆在他的頭上; 耶和華也必賞賜你。

²³ 北風驅雨,怒容也驅背後中傷人的舌頭。

²⁴ 寧可住在房頂的角上,不在寬闊的房屋與爭吵的婦人同住。

²⁵ 有好消息從遠方來,就如拿涼水給口渴的人喝。

²⁶ 義人在惡人面前俯伏,好像逿渾之泉,弄濁之井。

²⁷ 吃蜜過多是不好的;考究自己的榮耀也不榮耀。

²⁸ 人不制伏自己心靈,好像毀壞的城邑沒有牆垣。 

 

Proverbs 26 the first part of the chapter concerns fools (vv.1-12). An unjustified curse will never be effective.(v.2). These verses are complementary rather than contradictory. Although it is unwise to argue with a fool at his level and to recognize his foolish suppositions, there are occasions when it is best to refute him soundly, lest his foolish opinions seem to be confirmed.(vv.4-5).  A foolish messenger will, as it were, disable the sender so that his purpose cannot be accomplished.(v.6). A senseless act, for the stone should be free to fly from the sling.( v. 8). Verses 13-16 these verses concerns the lazy person. The person who makes a joke of his thoughtlessness is a dangerous person to be around.(v.19). The quarreler feeds the fires of contention.(v.21). Lips anxious to express good. A false front may hide an ugly inner reality.(v.23). Disguises (v.24).Pretends. He fakes it and waits for an opportune time to express his hatred. Those whose mouths are characterized by lies and flattery hate the victims they bring to ruin.(v.28).

Proverbs 26 (KJV)

¹ As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honour is not seemly for a fool.

² As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come.

³ A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the fool's back.

⁴ Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.

⁵ Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.

⁶ He that sendeth a message by the hand of a fool cutteth off the feet, and drinketh damage.

⁷ The legs of the lame are not equal: so is a parable in the mouth of fools.

⁸ As he that bindeth a stone in a sling, so is he that giveth honour to a fool.

⁹ As a thorn goeth up into the hand of a drunkard, so is a parable in the mouth of fools.

¹⁰ The great God that formed all things both rewardeth the fool, and rewardeth transgressors.

¹¹ As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly.

¹² Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? there is more hope of a fool than of him.

¹³ The slothful man saith, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets.

¹⁴ As the door turneth upon his hinges, so doth the slothful upon his bed.

¹⁵ The slothful hideth his hand in his bosom; it grieveth him to bring it again to his mouth.

¹⁶ The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason.

¹⁷ He that passeth by, and meddleth with strife belonging not to him, is like one that taketh a dog by the ears.

¹⁸ As a mad man who casteth firebrands, arrows, and death,

¹⁹ So is the man that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Am not I in sport?

²⁰ Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth.


²¹ As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife.

²² The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.

²³ Burning lips and a wicked heart are like a potsherd covered with silver dross.

²⁴ He that hateth dissembleth with his lips, and layeth up deceit within him;

²⁵ When he speaketh fair, believe him not: for there are seven abominations in his heart.

²⁶ Whose hatred is covered by deceit, his wickedness shall be shewed before the whole congregation.

²⁷ Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein: and he that rolleth a stone, it will return upon him.

²⁸ A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.

¹ 夏天落雪,收割時下雨,都不相宜;愚昧人得尊榮也是如此。

² 麻雀往來,燕子翻飛;這樣,無故的咒詛也必不臨到。

³ 鞭子是為打馬,轡頭是為勒驢;刑杖是為打愚昧人的背。

不要照愚昧人的愚妄話回答他,恐怕你與他一樣。

要照愚昧人的愚妄話回答他,免得他自以為有智慧。

藉愚昧人手寄信的,是砍斷自己的腳,自喝損害

瘸子的腿空存無用;比喻在愚昧人的口中也是如此

將尊榮給愚昧人的,好像人把石子包在機弦裏。

喻在愚昧人的口中,好像荊棘刺入醉漢的手

¹⁰ 那至大、造作一切的 神報應愚昧人,也報應犯法的人。

¹¹ 愚昧人行愚妄事,行了又行,就如狗轉過來吃牠所吐的。

¹² 你見自以為有智慧的人嗎?愚昧人比他更有盼望。

¹³ 懶惰人說:道上有猛獅,街上有壯獅

¹⁴ 門在樞紐轉動,懶惰人在床上也是如此。

¹⁵ 懶惰人放手在懷裏,就是向口撤回也以為勞乏。

¹⁶ 懶惰人看自己比七個善於應對的人更有智慧。

¹⁷ 過路被事激動,管理不干己的爭鬧,好像人揪住狗耳。

¹⁸ 瘋狂的人怎樣拋擲火把、利箭,與死亡

¹⁹ 人欺凌鄰舍,卻說:「我豈不是戲耍嗎?」的,也是怎樣

²⁰ 火缺了柴就必熄滅;無人搬弄是非,爭鬧便止息。

²¹ 好爭競的人煽惑爭端,就如餘火加炭,火上加柴一樣。

²² 搬弄是非人的言語,如同損傷,深入人的心腹。

²³ 火熱的嘴,奸惡的心,好像銀渣包的瓦器。

²⁴ 怨恨人的,用嘴粉飾,心裏卻藏著詭詐;

²⁵ 他用甜言蜜語,你不可信他,因為他心中有七樣可憎惡的。

²⁶ 這等人用詭詐遮掩怨恨,他的邪惡必在全會中顯露。

²⁷ 挖陷坑的,自己必掉在其中;滾石頭的,石頭必反滾在他身上。

²⁸ 虛謊的舌恨他所壓傷的人;諂媚的口敗壞人的事。
